Chaperone Policy

What is a chaperone and why might I need one ?

A chaperone is someone from the Practice who can be with you whilst you see the doctor or nurse.  It is someone who will be able to make sure you are comfortable with what is happening in the appointment and to make sure you understand what is happening and why.  A chaperone can also be there to make sure the doctor or nurse are comfortable with the appointment.  A chaperone is specially trained to make sure they look after you and the doctor or nurse at an appointment.

We will always respect your privacy, dignity and your religious and cultural beliefs particularly when intimate examinations are advisable – these will only be carried out with your express agreement and you will be offered a chaperone to attend the examination if you so wish.

You may also request a chaperone when making the appointment or on arrival at the surgery, (please let the Care Navigator know), or at any time during the consultation.
